Ryan Shoe Fund-Lent 2013

Esther-aFaith Formation Lenten Collection(2013) for the Esther Ryan School Fund

This past Lent the Prince of Peace Parish Faith Formation students raised $1,624.35 for the Esther Ryan Shoe Fund in Barberton, OH.  Mrs. Ryan, a retired school nurse, established “The Shoe Fund” in 1982 out of the trunk of her car.  100 percent of the money raised by the Fund goes toward purchasing shoes for less fortunate children in the Barberton area.

The students each decorated their own personal “Rice Bowls” and every Sunday during the weekly collection presented their offerings from the previous week.    Some of the things the students did to raise money were: cleaned their rooms and the house;  vacuumed; did dishes and laundry;  helped parents cook; took care of family pets (including giving them baths);  listened to their Grandparents and were nice to their brothers and sisters.

The students are very proud of their efforts and through their hard work and sacrifice they were able to raise enough money to buy many pairs of shoes for our less fortunate brothers and sisters.  The students also send out thanks to their parents, grandparents and all the others who helped us reach our goal and are looking forward to donating even more money next year!
