Parish Question for the Week

Re-read the gospel passage for the 23rd Sunday of the Year: Luke 14: 25-33. In the reading, Jesus clearly and boldly sets forth the cost of discipleship.

Take a moment to reflect on how God is speaking to you in the above gospel passage, attracting the attention of your heart. Then consider the following question for reflection during the week before our next celebration of the Eucharist together. Ask yourself "so what?" What difference does this gospel passage make in my life and that of the faith community at Prince of Peace? Meditate on this. Decide to change one thing before our next weekend Eucharist together.

Parish Question of the Week: Jesus tells the gathered crowd that they need to be willing to carry a heavy cross if they're going to continue to follow him. He's laying out the consequences for those who need to know the cost of something before they begin. The cost of following Jesus can't be calculated in a spreadsheet and amortized over time. But the retirement plan is, as the bumper sticker says, is "out of this world." Reflect on these thoughts and bring this effort to our next Sunday Eucharist together as a parish community.
