The Legion of Mary is a lay Catholic organization whose members are giving service to the Church, on a voluntary basis, all over the world. The object of the Legion of Mary is the Glory of God through the holiness of its members. Holiness developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work.
The smallest unit of the Legion of Mary is called a praesidium, existing at the parish level. Each praesidium holds a weekly meeting, where prayer is intermingled with reports and discussion under the direction of a Spiritual Director. This presidium is named 'Immaculate Mary Queen of Angels' and services the following parishes: St. Andrew the Apostle in Norton, Ss. Peter & Paul in Doylestown, St. Anne's in Rittman and Prince of Peace in Barberton. Our spiritual director is Father Louis Thomas.
Works of the Legion of Mary include the three primary areas of conversion, conservation and consolation.
Conversion includes extending a friendly invitation to those we meet to come to the Catholic Church and to answer questions people may have.
Conservation is important in helping our fellow Catholics to develop a deeper love and knowledge of God and of our Faith.
Consolation is reaching out to the lonely, the ill, and the aged. These contacts are made where they reside, through visits and/or bringing Holy Communion to them, and doing works of service for them. Consolation is also shown to family members of a deceased parishioner at a visitation or Mass.
